Financial Inclusion

Financial inclusion is a method of offering banking and financial services to individuals. It aims to include everybody in society by giving them basic financial services regardless of their income or savings.

The Financial Inclusion (FI) Index as per RBI’s circular dated 17/08/2021 comprises of three broad parameters (weights indicated in brackets) viz.

1. Access (35%)
2. Usage (45%)
3. Quality (20%)

With each of these consisting of various dimensions, which are computed based on a number of
indicators. The Index is responsive to ease of access, availability and usage of services, and quality of services, comprising in all 97 indicators. A unique feature of the Index is the Quality parameter which captures the quality aspect of financial inclusion as reflected by financial literacy, consumer protection, and inequalities and deficiencies in services.

Financial Literacy

Financial literacy is the ability to understand and make use of a variety of financial skills, including personal financial management, budgeting, and investing. It supports the pursuit of financial inclusion by empowering the citizen of the country to make informed choices leading to their financial well-being.

Strengthening Financial Inclusion in the country has been one of the important developmental agendas of both the Government of India and the four Financial Sector Regulators (viz. RBI, SEBI, IRDAI and PFRDA).

Investor Education

Investor education is a process of providing individuals with information, resources, and knowledge to help them understand financial markets, investment opportunities, and the associated risks. Its primary objective is to empower investors, both novice and experienced, to make informed and responsible investment decisions. Investor education encompasses various topics, including financial literacy, investment strategies, risk management, and regulatory awareness, to help individuals navigate the complexities of the investment landscape and achieve their financial goals.
It aims to promote financial literacy, enhance investor confidence, and reduce the likelihood of making ill-informed investment choices.
